Growing up, one of my favorite cartoons was Underdog.
It was pretty old when I got to watch it in the 1970s. The cartoon ran on NBC and CBS from 1964 to 1967. I got to watch it during its syndicated run.
“There’s no need to fear, Underdog is here!”
Gotta love the rhyming couplets. I can still remember that entire theme song, even though I don’t remember what I had for dinner two nights ago.
Underdog used to be a staple of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, from the mid-1960s through the mid-1980s. The last time the balloon was in the parade was 1984, just about the time I stopped watching Underdog. I missed the 2007 “Underdog” movie.
Now he’s back.
The Underdog balloon will be back in the parade for the first time since then. Commuters got a chance to see the balloon inflated earlier this week at Grand Central Station.
Wish I had seen it!
