Most of us dropped floppy disks ’round about the late 1990s. But the Federal Aviation Administration, not so much.

It’s only within the next two years that the FAA will finally say goodbye to the floppy disks that carry weather and other information to air-traffic controllers at 400 FAA facilities across the United States. They are going to be replaced with a newer system that was developed in the 21st century.

“Good news America: floppy disks are out, 21st century tech is in,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy in announcing the news.

The question I have: What has taken it so long?

And this is someone who still writes on a manual typewriter.
